We believe in fair cooperation and invest in relationships based on mutual trust and commitment. For over 15 years we have collaborated with our clients’ to streamline costs while supplying a quality service. We do this by employing several innovative measures, namely by utilizing technology, employing a knowledge-base and using efficient work arrangements. In the post-COVID-19 world, we think this approach is even more preferable.

All our personnel are properly trained and qualified for work that they perform, with relevant certification from the proper authorities.

This means that your insurance coverage and legal obligations or duty of care as a landlord/owner-occupier will not be disputed by any work that we carry out on your premises.

In 2004 we invested in our first tailor-made engineering software to help reduce our carbon footprint. Our client appreciated it so much, they have retained us until today!

Since then we have initiated several other measures to further this aim and even helped some of our clients to make a transition to the paperless system.

Services - Statutory

Navidad Engineering provides safety inspections and testing for electrical installations. Specific focus is given to ensure compliance with requirements of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447) and Electricity Regulations 1994 of Malaysia. See related statutory references below.

Testing

Electrical inspections are a statutory requirement for commercial and industrial installations in Malaysia. The purpose of these periodic inspections, sometimes referred to as the supervising engineer or visiting engineer service, is to ensure the safety of the people and plant in the usage of electricity at the installation.

The inspection frequency is dependent on the type (commercial or industrial) and electrical capacity of the installation (Regulation 67-2).

The duties of the inspector are to record and advise the owner and Energy Commission of any defects found during each visit (Regulation 68 and 70).

Both types of installations are mandated to be tested at least once every five years. This is to ensure that an installation is maintained in good and working order.

Testing is specified under the “Maintenance of Installations” section, which also stipulates the biennial testing of protection relays (Regulation 110).

All the works described in this section must be carried out by persons with competency certificates issued by the Energy Commission Malaysia and authorized to undertake such work (Regulation 60, 66, 67-1 and 111).

Services - Scope

Covering Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah & Sarawak, our services ensure compliance to statutory requirements while assessing site safety, engineering, operations and energy/power standards.

Assessment

Our electrical inspections and tests cover more than just statutory requirements. With a comprehensive range of observations and field test results, we capture issues which could compromise site safety and operations, both directly and indirectly.

We also identify parts of the installation which do not comply with best engineering practices and recommend improvements. Details related to site energy usage and power quality are recorded and benchmarked against existing standards, where available.

With the additional information captured, our clients are able to plan and schedule maintenance/upgrading activities for a better cost-value ratio.

Historical and statistical analysis of site data or work can also be easily carried out and understood, thanks to our storage method and special tool we use to analyse data.

Better data analysis means better decisions are made which lead to better value.

Services - Special

Other on-site technical services we provide are troubleshooting electrical issues, IR (Infra-red) thermography scanning and incident investigations. Click below for different use-cases.

Burnt motor

There are two types of reports in this category. The first is where there is an electrical issue at an installation, most commonly frequent or nuisance tripping. Our scope in this case will be to identify the cause of the issue and propose remedial action.

The second is where our client requests an appraisal of the installation condition, typically as formal and professional technical advice for management justification.

To-date we have produced 20+ such technical reports.

Excess heat in electrical components is usually the first sign of trouble. Loose connections, imbalanced/overloaded circuits, defective breakers, faulty fuses etc. are some examples of situations that can be detected by IR scanning.

Commonly used to inspect electrical breakers and equipment, IR scanning can help prevent unforeseen shutdowns.

Our IR scanning is carried out using FLIR® thermal cameras.

This type of report is carried out when an electrical incident, usually a fire or accident, has occurred at an installation, and a formal report and professional expertise are required.

Services - Design

Design improvements made by us on our clients’ electrical systems have verifiably reduced their business interruptions in key sales areas.

Redesign

By understanding your operational priorities, we are able to design an electrical system which minimizes interruptions to your business.

A good design segregates different sections of an electrical system. But a better design not only considers the operations impact of an unwanted event but also the recovery time from it.

With this philosophy we have significantly reduced our clients’ business downtime due to faulty equipment, lightning strikes, complexity of resets, nuisance tripping, misidentification, etc.

As a result, our clients have not only reported a reduction in sales interruptions, but also a faster resolution time for restoration of electrical supply.

Services - Development

Upon request, we provide our clients with technical training and workshops to enhance their engineering knowledge and help improve their decision-making process.

Training

Why is electrical safety training important? Malaysian statistics indicate that electrical sources are the number one cause of fires, and 50% of all electrical accidents result in a fatality.

If you have non-competent staff working in multiple standalone locations and who are expected to handle electrical appliances, providing basic electrical safety training is a necessity.

The training we provide is tailor-made for each customer and meant for non-technical workers. Due to the interactive nature of our course, we find that the liveliest part of the training comes in the Q&A session, where a lot of misconceptions are corrected and doubts are cleared.

There are two types of technical training that we provide. The first covers general electrical engineering theory, terminology and components that project managers would come across. This course is aimed at those who need to supervise contractors, assess proposals and vet quotations. The group that requires this type of training typically comprises management and/or procurement staff.

The second type of training is more technical. It broadly covers reading of electrical schematics, design critique and selected regulations for electrical design. The group that requires this type of training typically comprises engineers and/or hands-on project managers.

Both types of training are tailor-made to our clients’ needs.

Awards

Our safety efforts have been consistently recognized and awarded since 2003 by the oil and gas sector, and we have a zero LTI safety record. FInd out more on how we manage our safety below.

Awards

The safety of our staff and our environment are key values for us. We are trained to look after our own safety and the safety of others. As a result, our efforts have been formally recognized more than a dozen times since 2003 for our workplace safety and contributions.

Each one of us is accredited by more than one work safety program, run by various institutions/companies. Our team undergoes a safety training or refresher course at least once a year.

All our work processes are assessed using HIRARC analysis and supported with checklists. Safety audits are conducted periodically. Unsafe acts are identified, assessed and highlighted for shared learning.

Our documented policies include Health & Safety, Quality, Equal Opportunity and Drugs & Alcohol.

Clientele

We serve clients in the oil & gas, telecommunication, banking and commercial sectors.
